The London branch of the Italian Fascista Party celebrated the Italian Armistice Day by paying tribute to the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey. When the afternoon service was over and many of the congregation were laying flowers on the Unknown Warrior’s grave, the Dean appeared and ordered the vergers to clear a passage for the Fascisti.
Few in the crowd realized what was happening when the great door was thrown open and three young men in black shirts advanced. On their hearts were the arms of Rome in a small medallion, and they wore Italian military decorations.
